The Books of Purpose

A Selective list of Stories Beyond Self-Help:

purpose
As curiosity began to evolve into a deeper search for meaning, my reading took a new turn. The new set of books I have came across are good enough to transform the way I saw the world and my place in it. Each one carried a lesson about living with intention and embracing personal growth.

There is a common approach of story telling that blends spirituality, self-discovery, and the quest for meaning in life.

Next Trio, it is a shift to international writers:

Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist
Robin Sharma's The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari
Richard Bach's Jonathan Livingston Seagull

Santiago's Alchemist – makes you understand that even if you feel like you have no direction, still, if your dreams are deep enough, the universe conspires to help you in achieving the same.

A Lawyer's path to Monk Life – to learn the importance of balance, inner peace, and prioritising what truly matters

The unusual Seagull – realising that true freedom comes from following your own path, regardless of how different it may seem.

Each one of the stories reminded me that self-help doesn’t have to be loud and structured

Sometimes, it comes in the form of a seagull who dares to fly higher, or a shepherd chasing a dream across the desert. You will worry with them, celebrate with them, hurt for them, and heal with them. And in their becoming, you begin your own.

You can already guess that I would collect books of Paulo Coelho for sure. Here’s how his works lined up on my bookshelf over time:

  1. By the River Piedra, I Sat Down and Wept
  2. Veronica decides to Die
  3. Aleph
  4. Like the Flowing River
  5. The Pilgrimage
  6. The Witch of Portobello
I would like to suggest few more books,
  1. Who Will Cry When you Die? Life Lessons from the Monk Who Sold His Ferrari by Robin Sharma,
  2. The Bridge Across Forever: A True Love Story by Richard Bash
  3. The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks
  4. Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy

A cozy reading corner with plenty of books and endless time—that’s been my dream for a long time. And somewhere along the way, the anticipation of that dream led me to keep buying books.
But, for now, many of them sit quietly on a side rack, waiting for their special place.
